ON THE KINDNESS OF FORMER STRANGERS

Once again, I’m amazed by the support of our wonderful customers. I don’t know why it should come as a surprise after all these years hosting estate sales. Of course, I love meeting new bargain hunters and collectors, but it’s those who return time and time again, in all sorts of weather, that suffuses me with joy and the feeling we must be doing something right.

It was 108 degrees that day and we had the air-conditioner on as cool as we could make it. Parking was a bit spotty and so folks had to walk some to get to the front door. It may have only taken 5 minutes, but in that heat it might have persuaded some to turn right around and get back into their air-conditioned car. But not our customers . . . braving the miserable monsoon heat they were determined to shop, peruse, examine, consider and depart with a new special something. And then they had to schlep that purchase back to their car in the excessive heat. What courage!

To my amazement, there were many who came back multiple times throughout the day, making additional acquisitions, large and small, and being so happy that the items they came back for were still available. It’s true that the items we offer are worth a second and third look, if I say so myself, but I never heard one complaint about the heat (except for my own); they were just having an enjoyable time. It really is delightful to see those you’ve invited to an event you’re hosting create the powerful positive energy that infects others.

I get so many compliments about our wonderful staff (Kim, Kimberly, Nacho, Mike, Makayla and Kristin), how friendly, knowledgeable and helpful they are. I’m very lucky and blessed to have them be a part of our adventures, and that’s what each estate sale is . . . an adventure through the life of a stranger who, by way of owning even a small item they once enjoyed becomes a part of our lives.
